 Purchased because of tv ad November 11, 2008
The bobber broke very easily and we got a replacement. Once replaced, we had a problem when the weight got stuck between the bobber an the shaft that the bobber fits in. This caused us to take the thing apart to get the bobber unstuck and we lost a spring. Now we can't use the thing. Trouble.
 Great for younger kids November 4, 2008
I bought this rod for my 4 yr old grandson and he loves it.
I got this for him just a few days ago and he has already caught approx. 15 fish. Granted, they were small fish but we let him catch and then releases them. He has learned how to watch for the bobber to go under to know that the little fish is there. He gets so excited!
He still needs a little help from adults to bait the hook and remove the fish but he loves "shooting" the hook and bait out into the water.
I have read the negative reviews and I wanted to let others know that I am so pleased with the rod that I purchased another one for my other grandson today.
We have not had any problems like the ones described in the other reviews.
Yes, it is just plastic but it is a child's rod...not an adult's.
I don't think that this is the right rod for older kids but it teaches the basics of fishing to the younger children and with it they are able to "cast" out their own lines after an adult prepares it.
The rod should not be expected to function like an adult's fishing rod but to teach little ones the fun in going fishing. I love seeing my grandson's face light up when he catches his fish and it makes the purchase well worth the price.

The string binds up and when it does shoot, it often only goes about 15'. The string breaks too often to make this product worth it. My son now uses it as a fancy gun/rocket launcher as my husband is tired of restringing the silly thing. Don't buy it - I wouldn't again.
Latch does not open properly frustrating to an 8 year old August 29, 2008
The hook does not alway come out, the bobber doesn't alway work right and no fish have even nibbled. Most frustrating to an 8 year old who has hoped to catch a fish, even a nibble would have made this purchase reasonable,

Rocket Rod is great fun for kids and does catch fish. However it breaks about every 4 casts and needs to be restrung....which is quite a production.
